Fully Accessable Spam Prevention - New Development at MailMask.net
February 5, 2005
WATERLOO, ONTARIO - The MailMask.net development team is proud to announce a groundbreaking new component to their weblink spam avoidance system. The new component makes MailMask's service the only fully accessible solution for blocking automated email harvesters.
With MailMask's unique 'e-mail link' feature, people can use a MailMask link to replace a standard email link anywhere their email address is published online. Automated email harvesters are then blocked from finding the email address, but humans are still able to access it.
Before the development of this new component, people trying to access masked e-mail addresses had to look at an image and identify the letters that it contained. This was used to prove that it was indeed a human requesting the address and not an automated program. This used to pose a problem for visually impaired visitors, visitors on imageless web browsers, and visitors on many handheld devices. Now visitors have the option of using a completely text-based process to prove they are human. The visitor is asked very simple general knowledge questions - questions humans can answer, but that computer programs cannot.
